Nicky is an American boxer who has health problems and needs to retire from the sport. Only problem is Trina, his wife of 16 years who wants him to keep earning the big money. Nicky is not the shrewdest of characters and he makes many errors of judgement.
This story shows the worst in people and is quite violent in places. No character is likeable, they all have a nasty side. Nicky comes across as rather dumb but the articulate and wide range of vocabulary used is at odds to his persona.
Kiss Me, Evil is not an entertaining read, I found it a bit of a drag. I did not have an empathy for Nicky as he was a bit of a fool. Everybody played him for their own ends. This novel was a disappointment for me and did not offer much pleasure. The highlights were the sections involving motorcyles and biker culture. There was a lot of criticism of women, detailing all the scheming and back stabbing they can do against men.
This first person narrative was first written and published in 2007 under the title Open Wound. Blackie Noir has rewritten this novel in 2013, calling it Kiss Me, Evil. Why the author chose to revise this novel is beyond me. Books should give the reader a lot of pleasure and Kiss Me, Evil is a poor read. If this novel is an improvement over Open Wound, then I hate to imagine how bad the first draft actually was! I found Kiss Me, Evil so lacking in giving the reader pleasure, that I can only vote it 2 stars as this is a story to give a MISS.
