The Jewish Neighbor by A.M. Khalifa.

In this short story, Umayma is a young wife who has just moved from Syria and is now living in London. She has fled the civil war in Syria only to experience other terrors in Britain. Follow Umayma as she tries to make a new life in London away from the many horrors in the Middle East.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this short story. A. M. Khalifa writes with such passion to make such a colourful and powerful story. Strongly featured are the 3 things your parents always told you never to discuss with strangers, sex, politics and religion. But these 3 controversial issues are integral to this story. The Jewish Neighbor has a host of content to give you the full look and feel of Umayma's experiences. This is a griity story, with plenty of action and realism. You get the full picture including some racism woven into the story. It is a story that makes you think and challenge assumptions.

I was really impressed with the quality of A. M. Khalifa's writing. He is articulate and writes with a full vocabulary in a very educated and informed manner. His story was simply a pleasure to read and at the end I wanted more of the same. To have all these current day issues woven into the one story was very good indeed. He even included another favourite of mine, a description of the Middle Eastern food that Umayma was cooking! There is some romance in this story and it has a happy ending. For me there is only one score I can vote this story, the top score of 5 stars.

The Jewish Neighbor is available as an Amazon Kindle eBook and was written in 2014.
